Cognis, Monheim, Germany, has established a new Internet sustainability portal as part of its comprehensive sustainability management efforts. The portal provides customers, journalists and the general public with detailed and transparent background information, facts and figures, and case studies from the company’s operations. In addition, it also showcases new technologies and product innovations that will help Cognis’ customers make their own businesses more sustainable.

At Cognis, sustainability is a central pillar of both the corporate philosophy and the business model, which is built around serving global wellness and sustainability trends. And now Internet users can read in much more detail about the principles that guide the company’s activities in four areas (company, products, environment and people), how these principles are put into practice, and how this approach benefits both Cognis customers and society in general. The sustainability portal explains the relationship between general principles and specific policies, and between the company’s achieved market successes and future objectives. Key topics covered include the “24 Principles of Green Chemistry and Green Engineering,” initiatives to reduce emissions and energy consumption, and case studies demonstrating how Cognis’ products and solutions are helping its customers to reduce their overall environmental footprint.

“In the past few years, many companies have discovered sustainability. For Cognis, it has always been at the heart of everything we do, since the day the company was founded,” says Richard Ridinger, executive vice president, Cognis Care Chemicals, and chairman of the Cognis Sustainability Council. “Our new sustainability portal proactively communicates our stance on key issues such as environmental protection, corporate social responsibility and the management principles that guide our day-to-day activities. It also explains in considerable detail how sustainable innovations can help to achieve a better balance between environmental objectives and commercial success.”
