ASC PRESIDENT EARNS CERTIFIED ASSOCIATION EXECUTIVE CREDENTIAL

Lawrence D. Sloan, president of the Adhesives and Sealant Council, has earned the Certified Association Executive (CAE™) credential from the American Society of Association Executives. The CAE is the highest professional credential in the association industry. Less than five percent of all association professionals have earned the CAE. To be designated as a Certified Association Executive, an applicant must have a minimum of three years experience in nonprofit organization management; complete a minimum of 75 hours of specialized professional development; pass a stringent examination in association management; and pledge to uphold a code of ethics. To maintain the certification, individuals must undertake ongoing professional development and activities in association and nonprofit management. Approximately 3,300 association professionals currently hold the CAE credential, which was first awarded in 1961.

LOPAREX GROUP ACQUIRES THE DOUGLAS-HANSON COMPANY

Loparex Group, Willowbrook, IL, has acquired the Douglas-Hanson Co. of Hammond, WI. Established in 1973, Douglas-Hanson manufactures silicone-coated release papers and films, and extrudes polycoated papers for the packaging industry. The Douglas-Hanson facility will operate under the name Loparex Inc. "As a result of this acquisition, two successful release liner companies with distinct capabilities and expertise will blend together to become an even stronger supplier in the manufacture and delivery of release liner products," said Penti Kallio, president and CEO of Loparex Group. "This merger will enable Loparex to more effectively meet the continuing challenges of providing its customers with quality release liner products and services."

UPM EXPANDS ITS LABELSTOCK BUSINESS IN THE U.S.

UPM Raflatac, Helsinki, Finland, has announced plans to build a new pressure-sensitive labelstock factory in Dixon, IL, 105 miles west of Chicago. The new factory will focus on serving label converters in the important U.S. Midwest marketplace. Construction of the new factory will be completed during the first quarter of 2008, with the value of the investment estimated at $109 million.
