Researchers at the Melbourne University have discovered a polymer that can kill antibiotic resistant superbugs. A team led by Ph.D. student Shu Lam developed the star-shaped polymer to break down bacteria cell walls and found that the polymer also triggered cell death. They’ve named the new polymer chain SNAPPs: structurally nanoengineered antimicrobial peptide polymers. Their research was recently published in Nature Microbiology.
