Air bags. M&Ms. Golf tees. Ever wonder how some of the products in our everyday life were made? We recently caught an episode of “How It’s Made” on the Discovery Channel that discussed lottery tickets. Lottery tickets, something to the uninitiated might just seem like a scrap of laminated paper. But they actually use adhesives to laminate the plys and some things in the coatings or scratch off part – another fascinating application that our industry can take credit for. It never ceases to amaze me just how many things use adhesives and sealants -- from the obvious sealants and carpet adhesives to such specialized and high-tech applications as solar panels and computer chips.

Check out the How Products are Made section of eNotes, a comprehensive educational resource used by millions of teachers and students, for more on how lottery tickets are made. While you’re there, see the entry on how glue is made.
