“Industrial biotechnology is at an inflexion point for becoming a significant factor in producing bio-based chemicals, materials and fuels. These products, resulting from commercial development of the ‘new’ biology, will create economic growth and business opportunities for meeting increasing world demands for food, energy, water and materials as the world population expends from 7 to 10 billion over the next generation,” said William B. Armiger, Ph.D., Executive Director of SCD-iBIO and President of BioChemInsights, Inc.
SCD-iBIO, whose launch last month was announced by SOCMA, aims to advance the commercialization of industrial biotechnology, which is the application of biology for the production and processing of chemicals, pharmaceuticals, materials and energy. The group is referred to by its acronym, which stands for the Society for the Commercial Development of Industry Biotechnology.
