Chemical Industry Y2K Guide

WASHINGTON – The Synthetic Organic Chemical Manufacturers Association (SOCMA) has released a guide called Addressing Year 2000 Issues in Small and Medium-Sized Facilities that Handle Chemicals. The publication is intended to assist chemical companies in their efforts to prepare for the possibilities of computer problems before, during and after the change of the calendar year.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board, SOCMA and other chemical associations prepared the guide. It provides a checklist for facility systems potentially vulnerable to Y2K disruptions as well as guidelines for assessing the effects on safety and for deciding priorities. It also includes a list of sources for Y2K information.

To print the guide, or for a list of Y2K information sources, visit the Web site at www.socma.com/y2k.html, or call SOCMA at 202-721-4134.
