Crompton Corp. has named William Murrell vice president of its Urethanes business unit, with responsibility for strategic business operations and global growth. He will also have additional responsibility for overseeing the company's Oleochemicals business segment. Murrell started his career in 1978 as a process engineer at American Can Company in Neenah, WI. In 1981, he joined AlliedSignal Inc., Pottsville, PA, as a research engineer in Specialty Films, and held a number of technical positions before he was promoted to director of Operations in January 1993. Murrell joined Witco Corp. in Greenwich , CT, in 1999 as vice president-Americas for the company's Oleochemicals and Derivatives business group. Most recently, he was vice president of Olefins and Styrenics for Crompton Corp., following the September 1999 merger of Crompton & Knowles and Witco Corp. Awarded a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN, Murrell holds a number of patents and has been recognized for his numerous contributions to strategic corporate initiatives.
