Eastman Unveils Comprehensive Adhesives R&D Laboratory

KINGSPORT, Tenn. -- Eastman Chemical Co. announced the opening of a new laboratory facility expressly dedicated to its growing adhesive raw materials business. The laboratory will combine research and development, technical service, and applications development in a single facility.

"This lab is the direct result of the successful integration of the Eastman and Hercules adhesives businesses," said Dr. Joe DeLoach, technology director for Eastman's adhesives and polymers business.

Among the capabilities of the lab are pilot-scale spraying and coating equipment for hot melt, waterborne and solvent-based adhesives; dynamic mechanical analysis; and computer-controlled synthesis equipment capable of simulating a wide range of manufacturing conditions. The Kingsport location also enables access to Eastman's extensive chemical, analytical and information technology capabilities.
