PQ CORP. PURCHASES LAND USE RIGHTS FOR INORGANIC CHEMICAL COMPLEX IN CHINA

PQ Corp. has purchased and reserved approximately 24 acres of land use rights in the Tianjin Economic Development Area (TEDA) for the purpose of building a number of inorganic chemical plants to serve the Chinese market. The initial project on the site will be a sodium silicate factory with a capacity of 40,000 metric tons of product on a glass basis. This factory will begin production early in 2005. Liquid product from this facility will be directed at end uses in the pulp and paper, oil well drilling, water treatment and construction markets, as well as traditional markets. Several other projects for this site are in the planning stage. Further information is expected in the near future.
