Arkema has earned ISCC PLUS certification of its polyester powder coating resins site in North Kansas City, Missouri. With the certification, all the company’s polyester powder resins facilities worldwide are now certified in line with Arkema’s global Mass Balance1 powder resins offer roadmap, including the North Kansas City facility in the United States, the facility in Saint Celoni, Spain, and the facility located in Navi Mumbai, India. This achievement helps customers across the globe to advance more sustainable solutions for coatings in markets such as consumer products (ex. domestic appliances), electronics, automotive, architectural metal finishes, e-mobility, metal furniture and more.

"The past few years, we have prioritized and accelerated attaining ISCC+ certification in the manufacture of polyester resins at all of our powder resin plants worldwide,” said Linda Armitage, business manager for powder coating resins at Arkema. “These certifications reflect Arkema’s long-term commitment to reducing the product carbon footprint in coatings and related industries. Powder coatings resins offer solvent-free, low-waste, and highly durable solutions2, making them a key enabler of sustainable innovation for our customers, suppliers, end users, and partners.”

These certifications are part of a larger Mass Balance and certification roadmap that covers multiple technologies and products for coatings and related products, covering a complete range of bio-attributed3 specialty resins and additives, including high solids, waterborne, UV-LED-EB, and polyester powder materials.

For more information, visit the mass balance information at www.arkema.com.

1. The mass balance traceability chain is a method used to track the flow of materials through a production system. and attribute the inputs of a production process, to outputs of that production process through certified bookkeeping. This distinct accounting method verifies that the certified feedstock has replaced an equivalent quantity of fossil raw materials at the beginning of the supply chain and can be attributed to the product-to-be-sold, ensuring that both input and output are balanced. (Source: ISCC)

2. Refers to the durability of the finished coating after application.

3. A bio-attributed content indicates that the use of a biobased or recycled feedstock has been ascribed using a mass-balance methodology. The bio-attributed content is the percentage breakdown based on the ISCC+ methodology calculation. (Source: Arkema)
