The aftermath of Hurricane Katrina continues to impact several sites owned by Dow and its wholly owned subsidiary, Union Carbide Corp. (UCC) in Louisiana, says the company. Issues such as the availability of power, utilities, raw materials and transportation pose particular challenges. Two key factors influencing how quickly these sites return to normal operations will be access to raw materials and the ability to transport products to customers. The logistics infrastructure across the affected region remains disrupted in the aftermath of Katrina, causing severe transportation problems. Dow continues to assess the situation, noting that various Dow businesses will be impacted differently depending on the concentration of their assets at certain sites and their ability to supply customers from alternative Dow locations.
