Air Products Polymers has announced its intention to expand the production capacity of its Airflex vinyl acetate-ethylene (VAE) emulsions in the U.S. by 65 million wet pounds per year over the next six months through low-cost debottlenecking at its facilities in Calvert City, KY, and South Brunswick, NJ. "Advances in operational innovation have created significant productivity and capacity improvement opportunities that will give us capacity comparable to adding a new reactor at a fraction of the total cost," said Kenneth Kem, vice president, Technology at Air Products. The first phases of the additional capacity will go online this summer with a second phase planned for the fall. Kem said this increased capacity will help to meet customer needs across a wide range of product applications.
