Aquaforte 108W is a general-purpose primer with superior qualities for extrusion coating low-density polyethylene (LDPE) to polyester (PET) or aluminum foil. The product’s excellent grease and oil resistance makes it particularly suitable for snack packaging and labeling applications. It also possesses excellent moisture resistance, making it applicable for numerous food packaging needs.

Aquaforte 108W performs well on cello, cellulose acetate, biax-nylon and other substrates to improve adhesion of LDPE or Surlyn extrudate. Since it offers improved bonds of various inks to aluminum foil, it can be employed effectively in these applications as an ink primer.

BROOKFIELD ENGINEERING: Viscometer

This company has introduced a new DV-I Prime Viscometer with a totally new look and several new features. The shape, color scheme and keypad layout have all been improved. New “Timed Option” and “Print” buttons have also been added to the easy-to-use keypad.

The new DV-I Prime now includes an RS-232 PC interface for use with optional Wingather Software. Featuring a tabular and graphical display, Wingather allows users to collect, analyze and record test data within an application or export data files to Excel. CHARLES ROSS & SON CO.: Double Planetary Mixer

Charles Ross & Son Co. recently introduced its improved 500 Gallon Double Planetary Mixer.

The mixer is equipped with special “HV” high-viscosity mixing blades. The “HV” design permits the mixing of extremely viscous materials up to 8,000,000 cps. Most of the heavy-duty Double Planetary Mixers are used for non-flowing materials that require deaeration to insure an air-free product before packaging. Mixer features include: stainless steel construction; full vacuum operation; jacketed mix vessel for heating or cooling; dual post air/oil hydraulic lift; and a mix vessel on caster wheels.

Designs are available from 1 pint through 750 gallons capacity. A variety of options - including complete control packages, discharge systems, sanitary designs, etc. - are available.

NORDSON: Adhesive Melter

New PURBlue EC melters from Nordson Corp. simplify the use of reactive polyurethane (PUR) adhesives. A unique “easy-to-clean” design makes clean up and maintenance quick and effortless. Efficient operation and maintenance help increase productivity and reduce waste.

Melter components in contact with PUR adhesive, including tank, grid, reservoir and pump block, can be easily dismantled for cleaning. To further simplify maintenance, PURBlue EC melters feature pump shutoff valves and quick-disconnect heater and sensor cables.

Daily operation is also easy with user-friendly controls, a week/day timer and I/O interfaces. The tank accommodates 18 kg (39.68 lb) adhesive slugs measuring 280 mm (11 in) in diameter.

Sealant Equipment & Engineering, Inc.’s new Model 2200-972-001 Manual Snuf-Bak^TM Horizontal Dispense Valve is designed for precision shot dispensing of one-component materials horizontally onto an exterior surface or into a product interior.

This unique dispensing valve features a standard Snuf-Bak valve nested in a hanging bracket assembly and includes a manually operated electric trigger for operator activation of the dispensing operation. The volume dispensed is determined either by a precision shot-meter, timer control panel or trigger-on time, all available from Sealant Equipment.

The horizontal-mount Snuf-Bak valve is ideal for volume control and fast shut-off of viscous materials, such as silicones, polyurethanes, greases, and various thixotropic and cohesive (stringy) adhesives and sealants. The 1/4” NPT outlet port accepts virtually any standard or custom plastic or metal dispense nozzle, also available from Sealant Equipment.

The pneumatically actuated valve opens and closes its material passage at the base of the nozzle to precisely start and stop material flow. The needle pulls backward during shut-off, which quickly breaks the flow of material to prevent stringing.

The valve’s hanging bracket allows mounting from an overhead tool balance and is easily removed for fixed mounting. Material is delivered to the 2200-972-001 Horizontal Snuf-Bak valve by either a metering assembly or under regulated pressure from supply pumps or tanks, all available from Sealant Equipment & Engineering, Inc.
