Composites Certification Seminar

6/27/12 to 6/29/12
IYRS Campus
Bristol, RI
United States
The American Composites Manufacturers Association (ACMA) is partnering with the Rhode Island-based marine trades and technology school IYRS for a composites certification seminar. The three-day educational event will be held June 27-29, 2012, at the IYRS campus in Bristol, R.I.

The IYRS-ACMA seminar will combine CCT (Certified Composites Technician) classroom training with hands-on lab experience, preparing participants to take the ACMA-administered CCT exam. It will focus on four CCT programs: Open Molding, Vacuum Infusion, Light Resin Transfer Molding and Wind Blade Repair.

“CCT is considered the gold standard for composites training,” says ACMA Chief Staff Executive Tom Dobbins. “The program was established in 1999 to respond to the composites industry’s clear need for uniform training and technical skills. Since then, more than 4,000 CCT designations have been earned. Partnerships with businesses like IYRS are one way ACMA intends to grow that number.”

Founded in 1993, IYRS is an internationally recognized learning institution and vocational school. According to Clark Poston, the school’s Director of Student and Industry Relations, IYRS offers a “unique constructivist education that enables students to execute composite designs with the skills and knowledge needed to build a successful part.”

Poston believes the value of the CCT program “will only increase over time” and stresses that the more it is used by the industry, “the more significance it has for the individual technicians.” He adds that the certification “signifies a standard of capability” for employers when they evaluate job applicants and current workers.
