MUNSON MACHINERY: Screen Classifying Cutter

Munson Screen Classifying Cutter

The new Munson model SCC-15-SS Screen Classifying Cutter uses 30 interlocking parallelograms, each holding two cutter inserts, rapidly reducing coarse, friable, and fibrous materials into uniform particle sizes. Courtesy of Munson.

October 6, 2023

The new Munson model SCC-15-SS Screen Classifying Cutter, with a double-width infeed hopper, accommodates conveyor feeding of a variety of materials. Using gravity, the cutter can shear materials of irregular shapes, sizes, and densities to a uniform size.

The 30-inch-wide hopper funnels materials into a 15-inch-wide throat positioned over an 11-inch diameter solid-mass rotor containing staggered parallelograms, each of which holds two, half-inch-wide cutter tips that are easy to replace using one machine screw.

Material undergoes successive mechanical shearing against bed knives until small enough to pass through bedscreen apertures, resulting in uniform size reduction from coarse down to 20 mesh with minimal fines or heat generation at high rates with reduced energy use.

Bedscreen perforations range from 1/32 to two inches in diameter and up to three square inches. The shaft rotates at 30 to 3600 RPM, producing up to 500 cu ft/h of sized product, depending on application.

The cutter is fabricated with material contact surfaces of #304 stainless steel and is powered by an optional 7.5 HP gear motor drive.

Reduced materials include bulk foods, spices, sugar cane and hemp stalks, tobacco, plastics, batteries, brake pads and compounds, chemicals, clays, coal, minerals, detergent blocks, fiberglass insulation, filter cake, gypsum, ceramic honeycomb filter media, carbon/aramid fiber, leather, glass bottles, trim stock, wood products, and thermoplastic scrap. The cutter is offered in industrial, abrasion-resistant, and food-grade construction.
