Report from PPG Outlines Company's Progress Toward Sustainably Targets

PPG recently announced the company is making continued progress against its near-term 2030 sustainability targets, including reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions throughout its own operations and value chain. The company also reports continued improvement in sustainably advantaged product sales driven by customer demand.
“Sustainability is core to our purpose and a key enabler of our enterprise growth strategy,” said Peter Votruba-Drzal, PPG vice president, global sustainability. “It is embedded in how we do business by supporting our customers’ success through sustainably advantaged solutions that deliver industry-leading products, improved performance and operational savings, resulting in reduced water, waste and energy use.”
PPG’s 2024 Sustainability Report highlights significant progress across key environmental and social impact areas. The company reported that 41% of its sales came from sustainably advantaged products, including the PPG ENVIRO-PRIME® EPIC200X solution, which helped one customer reduce CO2 emissions by 3,500 metric tons annually. PPG also expanded its renewable energy efforts, achieving an 18% reduction in scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions, notably through an on-site solar installation at its Caivano, Italy facility, contributing to a 15% annual utility cost reduction when combined with a previously installed combined heat and power unit. Additionally, the company achieved a 6% reduction in value chain (scope 3) emissions across purchased goods and services, customer processing of sold products and end-of-life treatment of sold products, 48% reuse, recycling, or recovery of process waste, and a 28% decrease in water intensity at priority sites in water-stressed regions. PPG assessed 98% of its key suppliers against sustainability and social responsibility standards and has invested $16.4 million in its COLORFUL COMMUNITIES® initiative since 2015, surpassing its 2030 funding goal.
