HENKEL: Adhesive and Sealant for Rail and Industrial Applications

Teroson MS 940 is a new adhesive and sealant formulated without isocyanates for demanding elastic bonding in rail and industrial applications. Based on a new polymer package, the product reportedly exceeds the mechanical performance of standard silane-modified polymer (SMP) solutions in elongation and tensile strength. This allows manufacturers to replace polyurethane systems while maintaining the performance required for high safety factors and tightly constrained bondline dimensions.
“With Teroson MS 940, we are taking elastic bonding to a new level,” said Guillaume Sandoz, global application engineering expert for rail at Henkel. “The new polymer package delivers the mechanical performance required for demanding rail applications while enabling manufacturers to move away from polyurethane systems. This means they no longer have to choose between chemistry formulated without isocyanates and the performance needed for reliable, long-term elastic bonds.”
Teroson MS 940 offers resistance to UV radiation, weathering and aggressive rail cleaning agents, helping maintain bond integrity in interior and exterior applications throughout the vehicle’s service life. The adhesive is particularly suited to the bonding and sealing of windows, doors, window frames, panels and other structural and semi-structural components in railway carriage manufacturing. It can also be used in vehicle body manufacturing, specialized transportation and general industrial assembly.
The product offers primerless adhesion across a broad range of substrates, including raw metal sheets, electrophoretic-coated surfaces, painted substrates, glass, and plastics. It is also suitable for low-energy surfaces such as anti-graffiti coatings, anti-scratch paints and intumescent coatings, where primers are commonly used.
The gun-grade, ready-to-use formulation cures with atmospheric moisture, while optional acceleration with Teroson MS 9372 can support faster processing where required. The adhesive can be applied at temperatures from +15 °C to +40 °C and is suitable for service temperatures from -40 °C to +100 °C, with short-term exposure up to +120 °C.
