Philadelphia -- Rohm and Haas Co. announced the acquisition of the flexible-packaging adhesives business of Technical Coatings Co., a subsidiary of Benjamin Moore & Co., N.J. The transaction price was not disclosed.

Technical Coatings' flexible-packaging adhesives business includes the development, production and distribution of a full line of cold-seal adhesives marketed under the CosealR trademark. The primary application of such adhesives is in flexible packaging, used mainly in the food and medical industries.

"This bolt-on acquisition gives us a position in the fast-growing cold-seal market. It is a critical addition to our portfolio, in line with our goal to be a total solutions provider to packaging converters," said Nick Gutwein, vice president and global business director of the Adhesives and Sealants Business.

The Technical Coatings flexible-packaging adhesives business will be integrated into the Packaging and Converting strategic business unit of the Rohm and Haas Adhesives and Sealants business.

"The addition of this business will strengthen Rohm and Haas Co.'s ability to meet customers' needs, reinforce our position with our key converter customers in North America and further complement our global cold-seal offering," said Mark Douglas, general manager, North America, for the Adhesives and Sealants business. "Customers who purchase Coseal products will also benefit from the know-how exchange with our other flexible-packaging product lines," he added.
