Dow to Introduce New Capacity for Epichlorohydrin and Liquid Epoxy Resin

October 5, 2000
Dow Chemical is working on construction of its new liquid epoxy resin and world-scale epichlorohydrin production-facility expansions.

FREEPORT, Texas — The Dow Chemical Co. is working on construction of its new liquid epoxy resin and world-scale epichlorohydrin production-facility expansions. Completion is expected in the fourth quarter of 1999. Both production facilities will incorporate improved manufacturing process technology.

Dow is a leading global producer of liquid epoxy resin and epichlorohydrin, a raw material used in the production of liquid epoxy resin, synthetic glycerine, glycidyl methacrylate and a variety of specialty chemicals. The new production facilities will increase Dow’s capacity for liquid epoxy resin by 90 million pounds and its capacity for epichlorohydrin by 250 million pounds.

“These capacity expansions have been coordinated to help Dow meet growing market and internal demand for liquid epoxy resins, epichlorohydrin and a variety of downstream products in which these materials are used,” says James Varilek, global business manager for Dow’s Epoxy Products and Intermediates business. “This investment in technology and capacity reinforces Dow’s long-term commitment to its customers and the global industry.”

Included in the construction of the epichlorohydrin plant is a new allyl chloride production facility, which will supply feedstock to the epichlorohydrin plant and support sales into other applications.
