The 60th Pittsburgh Conference on Analytical Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy (Pittcon) will be held March 8-13, 2009, at McCormick Place in Chicago. Organized by the Spectroscopy Society of Pittsburgh (SSP) and the Society for Analytical Chemists of Pittsburgh (SACP), Pittcon 2009 will offer a lab product exposition, a technical program, education programs, and peer-to-peer networking opportunities.

Exposition

The 2009 Exposition will showcase the latest products and services available in analytical chemistry and applied spectroscopy, and which are applicable to a broad spectrum of areas, such as bioanalytical chemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry, nanotechnology, environmental, forensic and food analysis, homeland security, and others.

A complete list of exhibitors and their corresponding booth numbers is available at www.pittcon.org/exposition/index.html.

Short Courses

The Pittcon 2009 Short Course Program offers skill-building training for chemical professionals. Courses range in length from one-half day to two days, and are taught by experienced professionals who are recognized experts in their fields. The value of course attendance is enhanced by the opportunities that participants have to network with their peers and share their experiences.

Short courses will be offered in the following categories: atmospheric pressure ionization; atomic spectrometry; atomic spectroscopy; electrochemistry; gas chromatography; infrared spectroscopy; liquid chromatography; mass spectrometry; microscopy; rheology; spectroscopy; thermal analysis; thin-layer chromatography; and more.

Technical Program

To complement the Exposition and Short Course offerings, the Technical Program is packed with a week’s worth of invited symposia, workshops, organized contributed sessions, new product forums, and contributed oral and poster sessions to provide comprehensive coverage of the latest developments in the traditional and emerging disciplines of analytical chemistry and applied spectroscopy. In addition, Pittcon 2009 marks the third year in a continuing partnership with The American Chemical Society Division of Analytical Chemistry (ACS-DAC). The ACS-DAC will co-program with the Pittcon 2009 Technical Program with six invited symposia, five organized oral sessions and one poster session.

Pittcon 2009 will also feature a full-day symposium on nanotechnology organized by the Japan Analytical Instruments Manufacturers' Association (JAIMA) and the Japan Society for Analytical Chemistry (JSAC). In addition, the Society for Applied Spectroscopy will have two symposia in the Technical Program.

A number of prestigious awards will be presented at Pittcon 2009, including the Pittcon Heritage Award; the Pittsburgh Analytical Chemistry Award; the Pittsburgh Spectroscopy Award; the Pittsburgh Conference Achievement Award; the Ralph N. Adams Award in Bioanalytical Chemistry; the ACS Analytical Chemistry Award for Young Investigators in Separation Science; the Charles N. Reilley Award; the Dal Nogare Award; the Williams-Wright Award; the Bomem-Michelson Award; and the Maurice F. Hassler Award.
