Capping Standardized Testing
President Obama wants to cap standardized testing at 2% of classroom time for students. Last week, we asked if you thought this was a good idea.
Half of the respondents replied, “No” capping standardized testing was not a good idea. 35% said “Yes” capping testing was a good idea, and 15% were unsure.
One reader commented, “How will you know how your students compare to others around the nation, and whether they are improving, if you do not use standardized testing?”
Another participant said, “Teachers are spending most of the time ‘teaching to the test.’ With all this testing, the U.S. still graduates far too many poorly educated students, especially in science and math.”
Other comments included: “Keep the feds out of the classrooms. Let local communities, counties and states determine the best way to educate students.”
