Virginia Tech’s Micromolecules Innovation Institute (MII) has opened registration for its 2023 Adhesion Science Short Course. The course will take place May 15-19, 2023, at the Inn at Virginia Tech, with lab sessions on the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg, Virginia. This lecture-laboratory short course, taught by Virginia Tech professors, is designed for those who produce and/or utilize adhesives and sealants.

The course will cover topics ranging from adhesives and polymer design parameters, to PSA performance and testing, to adhesives, sealant, and waterborne rheology, and wood adhesion. The course’s schedule includes, among others: “Introduction to Adhesion, Mechanical Properties, & Failures: Stresses, Strains, & Energies;” “Viscoelasticity: Importance of Time & Temperature Dependence and Applications to Adhesives;” “Adhesion Challenges: Impact, Durability, Environmental Effects, and Accelerated Characterization;” “PSA and Soft Matter Adhesion and Characterization.” The course also includes laboratory opportunities, like Chemistry: Surface analysis, contact angle, polymer synthesis and cure progression, and Polymer Viscoelasticity: DMA, TMA, Rheometer.
