The Washington Times is reporting that fees and fewer flights are going to make air travel for business even more of a hassle this fall.
While Continental and American Airlines have already announced plans to scale back services and cut routes due to sky-high jet-fuel prices, travelers will soon hit a new snag: the dreaded Saturday-night stay over.
United, the world’s second-largest carrier, has said it plans to put into place a Saturday-night stay policy in the fourth quarter. This will cause business travelers in 65% of the markets it serves to extend their trips through the weekend to get around higher round-trip weekday fares. And that means a couple more nights in a hotel room, a few more days eating in restaurants, and more time driving a rental car before finally getting home in time to start the new work week.
