Currently no materials exist that could allow people to scale walls or transverse ceiling as effortlessly as the gecko. However, the unique toe pads of the gecko are being researched once again by scientist, but this time it is in the hopes that one day it can be used to help defy gravity for mankind. Scientists have reported in ACS Applied Materials and Interfaces that a dry adhesive could possibly be the answer to making this happen. It is with their unique toe pads assisting them in quickly attaching and detaching from surfaces that allow the geckos to scale a wall; so far, scientists have managed to manufacture dry adhesives with similar properties, but they haven't reached total success in making it as sticky as gecko toes.
