Founded in 1910 by Kaspar Winkler, Sika began with the invention of Sika-1, a quick-setting waterproofing admixture for mortar. This innovation was instrumental in waterproofing the Gotthard Tunnel, facilitating the electrification of a vital railway link between Northern and Southern Europe . From these beginnings, Sika has evolved into a global specialty chemicals company, developing and producing systems and products for bonding, sealing, damping, reinforcing, and protecting in the building and construction and motor vehicle industries.
The company organizes its product offerings into Construction Solutions and Industry Solutions, targeting markets such as concrete, waterproofing, roofing, building finishing, flooring, and engineered refurbishment.
