The Center for the Polyurethanes Industry (CPI) of the American Chemistry Council (ACC) announced the 2025 CPI Distinguished Leadership Award recipient: David Mullen of Huntsman. The award, which recognizes individuals whose leadership, innovation, and commitment to sound science have made a lasting impact on CPI and the polyurethanes industry, was presented during the awards luncheon at the 2025 Polyurethanes Technical Conference in St. Louis, Missouri.

“CPI is immensely grateful for David’s long-time contributions to the polyurethanes industry,” said Jason Sloan, director, CPI. “In every way, he represents what this award is about – expertise, leadership, and building for the future.”

David Mullen has worked in the polyurethanes industry for more than 35 years and currently serves as senior process chemist at Huntsman’s Geismar manufacturing site in Louisiana, specializing in isocyanate and polyols analysis. He holds a Master of Science in chemistry and has made significant contributions to quality assurance and raw materials testing.

Mullen’s numerous contributions to CPI include nearly 25 years of participation in CPI’s Polyurethane Raw Materials Analysis (PRAMA) work group, including 14 years as chair from 2011 through 2024. CPI’s PRAMA work group works to standardize testing methods across the polyurethanes value chain, supporting 30 ASTM raw material standards and promoting harmonization with 11 ISO methods.

In addition, Mullen co-developed and continues to co-instruct CPI’s Professional Development course, PU 201: “The Myth and the Magic,” launched in 2003. This course covers polyurethane raw materials testing, specifications, and performance.
