Organik Kimya Completes Landmark Solar Investment in Turkey

Istanbul-headquartered specialty chemicals producer Organik Kimya has completed a major renewable energy investment with the commissioning of a large, land-based solar power plant in the Keskin district of Kırıkkale Province, Turkey. The commissioning marks a significant sustainability milestone for the company in 2025. Built on 125 decares of land with an installed capacity of 11.2 MWp, the facility was developed starting in 2024 and finalized in summer 2025. It allows Organik Kimya to fully power the company’s operations with renewable electricity while feeding surplus energy into the national grid. Organik Kimya reports that the project underscores its long-term commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and ensuring secure, sustainable production, building on its earlier move to 100% renewable electricity at its Rotterdam plant in 2017.

For Organik Kimya, the road to a more sustainable future has been paved with bold investments and long-term commitments. The decision to build a land-based solar power plant (GES) came after carefully evaluating alternatives. Unlike rooftop installations, the chosen model offers the scale to secure all of Organik Kimya’s production needs. As the first phase of the project, the solar power plant is now actively generating around 19,000 MWh of clean electricity annually. This production is equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of approximately 6,900 households or 22,000 people.

“Energy is at the heart of everything we do — from developing innovative polymers to delivering them reliably to customers worldwide,” said Tansel Özyönüm, COO. “By investing in renewable energy, we are not only reducing our carbon footprint but also ensuring that our growth creates shared value for our customers, communities, and the planet.”

Beyond securing clean energy, the new solar power plant significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions and strengthens the company’s ability to operate sustainably for decades to come. It also enhances supply security, helping customers plan with confidence while partnering with a producer that takes concrete action on climate responsibility.

Organik Kimya is a global provider of sustainable polymer chemistry, offering liquid emulsion polymers, re-dispersible powder polymers, adhesives, and specialty additives that enable high-performance, low-carbon solutions for coatings, construction, adhesives, textiles, and beyond.
