RadTech Encourages Members to Comment on EU Directive Review

As the European Union considers the future of RoHS exemptions for mercury vapor gas discharge lamps, RadTech — The Association for UV & EB Technology is urging member organizations to submit comments by August 1, 2026. According to RadTech, the outcome of this review could significantly impact the UV industry and its supply chain.
The periodic review of mercury vapor gas discharge lamps is currently underway under the EU Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive. The current five-year exemptions for 4(a)-I and 4(f)-IV expire on February 24, 2027. Oeko-Institut is managing the evaluation process and will make a recommendation to the European Commission after the stakeholder consultation period closes on August 1, 2026. A new EU directive to renew, revoke, or further clarify the exemptions is expected in late 2026 or early 2027.
As part of the consultation process, stakeholders are being asked to review three dossiers for 4(a)-I and four dossiers for 4(f)-IV, then complete a six-point questionnaire and a seven-point questionnaire, respectively.
To help members better understand the public comment process and how to complete the questionnaires, RadTech is hosting a 30-minute session on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at 1:00 PM ET.
