Avery Dennison's CleanFlake RFID Tags Receive RecyClass Approval
Avery Dennison recently announced that its AD CleanFlake™ RFID tags have received RecyClass Technology Approval in Europe. Building on the portfolio's existing Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) Design® Recognition in North America, the company said it is the first manufacturer to offer an RFID solution recognized by both organizations for compatibility with mechanical PET recycling streams.
With recognition in both North America and Europe, multinational brand owners can use a common RFID label construction across global supply chains. The approach supports high-performance product tracking while simplifying material sourcing and packaging data management for international reporting.
The AD CleanFlake RFID solution combines Avery Dennison's CleanFlake adhesive technology with a patent-pending RFID inlay and label construction. During the mechanical recycling process, the design enables RFID tags to separate cleanly from rigid PET, reducing adhesive and metal contamination and helping produce PET flakes suitable for reuse.
According to Avery Dennison, RecyClass Technology Approval confirms that the AD CleanFlake RFID solution is compatible with established mechanical PET recycling processes. Recycling-compatible RFID inlays, tags, and adhesives can improve material recovery and sortation while helping brand owners meet sustainability objectives.
