Covestro Expands pMDI Portfolio

Covestro is expanding its pMDI (polymeric methylene diphenyl diisocyanate) portfolio in Europe with the introduction of Desmodur® ClimateValue (CV). This new grade provides about 25% reduction in product carbon footprint (PCF) of comparable standard Desmodur grades used for insulation applications. The reduced footprint is achieved through renewable energy use, process innovation and efficiency improvements, and supply chain decarbonization, and is verified using a cradle-to-gate life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology certified by TÜV Rheinland1. Desmodur CV is available now to pMDI customers supplied from the production sites in Germany.
"Our customers want to act now on their climate targets — and they need a partner they can trust to act with them," says Bernd Hennig, Head of Trading Cluster MDI EMLA at Covestro. "Desmodur® CV is our answer: a commercially available pMDI that immediately reduces Scope 3 emissions for our customers, offers a strong price performance profile with no disruption to their existing processes."
