To us in the adhesives industry, the year divides into two parts: the spring and fall conferences and exhibitions. However, spring seems to start in early February and run late into June, and fall is about to get under way. As you read this, the 2000 Gordon Research Conference on the Science of Adhesion is close at hand, scheduled for August 6-11 in Tilton, N.H. The Adhesion Society, Loctite Corp., National Starch and Chemical Co., and Reichhold are helping to co-sponsor the event. More information is available at 401-783-4011, or www.grc.uri.edu.

Titled “Partnership in the Third Millennium,” the FEICA 2000 World Adhesives Conference and Expo takes place every fourth year, with organization rotating between the adhesive associations of the United States, Japan and Europe. This year it is being held September 20-23 at the Hotel ARTS, in Barcelona, Spain. Attendees represent the largest international gathering of the adhesives industry, with delegates from around the world, representing every aspect of the industry.

The Conference follows three different tracks: Supplier, Adhesives Industry and Market. They will focus on varying themes important for the entire chain, from suppliers to end users. The Expo will be held on September 21 in the major hall of Hotel ARTS where we also will be exhibiting. For information, visit the Web site www.feica.com, call +49-211-679 31-30, or fax +49-211-679 31-88.

If you use adhesives in any kind of manufacturing or assembly environment, you will want to check out SME’s Adhesives 2000, which co-locates September 27-28 alongside ATExpo at the Rosemont Convention Center. The conference also features a one-day course on Fundamentals of Adhesive Bonding and a two-day course on Assembly Plant Layout. For information, call 313-271-1500, ext. 2133, or e-mail bockeva@sme.org.

The ATExpo Conference (September 25-28) and Exhibition (September 26-28) is dedicated solely to discrete product assembly. ATExpo is a flagship show that has been a major element in the world’s industrial and economic expansion for 21 years. Over 700 exhibitors occupy more than 225,000 sq. ft. of exhibit space. Count us in. We will be exhibiting. The ATExpo Web site, www.atexpo.com, gives complete information on show exhibitors, speakers, plant tours, conference sessions and special events.

The Adhesive and Sealant Council will hold its 2000 Fall Convention and Expo on October 8-11 at the Minneapolis Hilton & Towers. Dubbed “Technologies Advancing the Industry,” this conference, like other ASC functions, will be chock-full of information with a dozen or more sessions, a short course on hot melts, and tours of ChemRex and H.B. Fuller companies. ASI will be exhibiting at the Expo on Tuesday afternoon.

To get the most out of the meeting and begin preparing for the sessions, visit the ASC Web site at www.ascouncil.org. In September, all registered attendees will be able to download presentations from the site. For registration information and a copy of the preliminary program, contact the ASC at 301-986-9700
