ATOFINA Petrochemicals, Inc., Houston, announced plans to modernize and expand its joint-venture Cos-Mar styrene-monomer facility located near Carville, La., to increase styrene capacity to 1.15 million metric tons (2.5 billion pounds). Project completion is planned for third quarter 2004.

CB Mills, Gurnee, Ill., has appointed Walsh & Associates Inc., St. Louis, distributor in the Midwest. Walsh & Associates also has been appointed Midwest-States distributor for Spencer Machine & Tool Co., Jeffersonville, Ind.

Cognis Corp., Cincinnati, announced an agreement to acquire Degussa AG's Laporte Performance Chemicals business, a supplier of hydroxy and multifunctional monomers. The acquisition includes two production and development sites in the United Kingdom.

Epoxies, Etc..., Cranston, R.I., has attained ISO 9001:2000 certification. The company supplies high-performance adhesives, potting compounds and coatings to the electronic, aerospace, automotive and decorative industries.

Forbo Adhesives, LLC, Research Triangle Park, N.C., has been recommended for registration to the ISO 9001:2000 standard. This is a multi-site registration, which covers the North American headquarters in Research Triangle Park, as well as all Forbo manufacturing facilities in the United States and Canada.

Hauthaway Corp., Lynn, Mass., has appointed Inortech Chimie Inc. to represent its line of Hauthane waterborne polyurethane dispersions to the architectural and industrial coatings market and adhesives market in the provinces of Ontario and Quebec, Canada.

International Specialty Products Inc. (ISP) Chairman and majority stockholder Samuel J. Heyman has completed the process of taking the company private with stockholder approval of Heyman's purchase of the approximately 19 percent of ISP's outstanding common shares he did not previously own. The transaction is valued at approximately $134 million.

UCAR Emulsion Systems (UES), Cary, N.C., a business unit of Union Carbide Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of The Dow Chemical Co., has launched a new online resource for the paint, coatings, adhesives and sealants industries. The new Web site, located at http://www.ucarlatex.com, will help formulators choose the right raw materials for their specific applications.
