Sika Automotive recently announced it has been nominated for the 2015 Altair Enlighten Award, reportedly the only industry award dedicated to recognizing achievement in vehicle lightweighting.

Presented in collaboration with Center for Automotive Research (CAR), the Altair Enlighten Award reportedly recognizes achievement in weight reduction across the automotive industry—from motorcycles to passenger cars, light trucks to commercial vehicles and buses. This year, Sika’s ultra-high modulus adhesive (UHM) for mixed material bonding was nominated, along with 17 other lightweighting technologies.

“The automotive industry has fundamentally been transformed in recent years, as automakers achieved revolutionary changes in vehicle designs with dramatic weight reduction,” said Greg Moran, Sika Automotive vice president and head of Global Automotive Marketing. “Sika Automotive is proud to have been a partner to many of our OEM customers in helping them to achieve the vehicle lightweighting. We are thrilled that the Altair Enlighten Award committee has recognized our contribution to the BMW i3 and i8, the Sikaflex® ultra-high modulus adhesive.”

The award winner is determined by an independent panel of judges and will be announced during the 50th Annual CAR Management Briefing Seminar, taking place August 3-6 in Traverse City, Mich.
