A September to Remember

September 1, 2004
Editor Teresa McPherson's monthly roundup

Teresa McPherson

In addition to our regular editorial, this month's issue incorporates ASI EndUser: Adhesive Fasteners/Structural Adhesives. This special section includes editorial of interest to users of adhesives and sealants for assembly applications. Articles include a case study on how a solar panel manufacturer benefited from an air-free solder dispenser (p. 40) and feature stories that examine the characteristics of various structural adhesives. Particularly noteworthy is an article that looks at The Henkel Innovation Center, a facility where the latest appliance designs are torn apart in order to analyze and solve an OEM's performance and cost concerns. The teardown process allows the appliance company to locate cost-saving applications they otherwise might have missed.

We hope you find this useful and look forward to your comments about this special content. Please feel free to contact me or our publisher, Sue Love (loves@bnpmedia.com ), with your comments.

ASI on the Road

ASI is sponsoring a panel at the Adhesive and Sealant Council, Inc. (ASC)'s 2004 Fall Convention, Sept. 19-21 in Pittsburgh. Moderated by Publisher Sue Love, "Trends in Technology II: Finding Market Driven Solutions" is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 20, from 1:45 to 4:15 p.m. For more information, visit www.ascouncil.org. In addition, our own Dr. Dave Dunn will be presenting Dr. Harry Coover, who was recently inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame for his invention of cyanoacrylate adhesives, on Wednesday morning at the ASC event.

ASI also has developed a session at Assembly Tech Expo. "Advances in Tabletop Automation to Meet Manufacturing Challenges" will take place from 2-4 p.m. on Sept. 29. Topics at this session will include a review of solutions to improve productivity, accuracy and economy; plus, ATExpo will offer a look at how manufacturers of dispensing/application equipment are responding to new adhesive products for manufacturing applications.
