At 1,610 meters per minute (60 miles per hour), Dow Corning's new Syl-Off® Advantage Series high-speed, solventless silicone coating system has set a new world speed record for siliconizing paper. Coverage was excellent and, just as importantly, there was no visible silicone mist at the coating head, a common problem in high-speed coating. The Advantage Series' record breaking, non-misting capability was demonstrated at a high-speed coating symposium hosted by equipment maker Maschinenfabrik Max Kroenert in Hamburg, Germany, Sept. 7-9. The symposium, entitled "Setting New Standards," was designed to give adhesive tape and pressure-sensitive label converters, coaters, and laminators a preview of future high-speed production possibilities. The capabilities of new Syl-Off were successfully demonstrated to 230 attendees on the Kroenert RECO 800 A with a 6-roller-silicone-coating head at 1.610 m/min (one landscape mile) and at a working width of 1.230 mm.
