FLEXcon recently announced it has received two awards in the Specialty Graphic Imaging Association’s Product of the Year Competition, in the Finishing–Laminates, Adhesives, Films, and Coatings category; and the Media–Non-PVC category. The competition judged submissions across 19 categories for output devices and 29 categories for non-output devices.

FLEXmark® V240 R Clear Sharklet received the finishing–laminates, adhesives, films and coatings category award. The product is an overlaminate featuring biomimetic technology inspired by the microbe-resistant properties of shark skin. Designed by Sharklet Technologies, Sharklet is reportedly the world’s first microtexture that inhibits microorganism attachment and growth. FLEXcon has mimicked the texture in an overlaminating film that is now available to the imaging market.

FLEXcon’s SHIMMERcal Silver Special glitter film, customized to produce a decal for SGIA members, was named a winner in the Non-PVC category. The 22-mil specialty film reportedly allowed Modernistic to print UV screen on both sides for a dazzling decal.

“It’s an honor to be recognized among a field of outstanding entries and by a distinguished panel of judges, who understand the technology and market opportunity for such products,” said Jodi Sawyer, market development manager, product branding business team. “We take pride in the acknowledgement of our persistent pursuit of innovation that brings value to the imaging community. We are committed to industry organizations, such as SGIA, and it was a real honor to receive two Product of the Year Awards.”

“We have worked with FLEXcon for five years and are thrilled to share in this recognition,” said Mark Spiecker, CEO at Sharklet Technologies. “FLEXcon has proven to be a true partner helping us to stay one step ahead by providing us with superior materials. Through innovative thinking and a collaborative spirit, they enable us to bring our revolutionary surface product to market and help us advance our mission to create a cleaner, safer world.”
