Sika recently announced that it has agreed to acquire Adeplast SA, a manufacturer of mortars and thermal insulation solutions based in Romania. Sika reports that the acquisition will significantly strengthen its position in the local construction chemicals market and extend its manufacturing footprint. The transaction is subject to clearance by anti-trust authorities.

Adeplast reportedly generates annual sales of CHF 120 million (approximately $121.3 million) with a workforce of 460 employees. The company is headquartered in Ploiești and produces a wide range of building mortars, as well as thermal insulation (EPS) for building envelope solutions. It operates four state-of-the-art production plants that provide a nationwide coverage of Romania and the potential to serve neighboring countries. According to Sika, the strategically located facilities will enable it to realize efficiency gains in logistics and warehousing.

“Adeplast is a proven industry leader and will considerably strengthen the presence of our Target Market Building Finishing in the growing Romanian market,” said Ivo Schädler, regional manager for EMEA. “The improved access to the distribution channel will offer exciting cross-selling opportunities, increase our market penetration, and drive the continued growth of both companies. We warmly welcome the Adeplast employees to the Sika team and look forward to a successful joint future.”

According to Alexander Bărbuț, a representative of the owners of Adeplast, “Adeplast was the life’s work of our father, Marcel Bărbuț, and is a Romanian success story. We are convinced that Sika will continue this story and take the company even further, as part of one of the leading groups in Europe in our industry.”
