Tammo Boinowitz, Ph.D., will become managing director of BYK-Chemie GmbH, based in Wesel, Germany, as of January 1, 2021. After a two-month training and transitional phase, he will also become president of BYK, the largest division of the specialty chemicals group ALTANA. Boinowitz succeeds Christoph Schlünken, Ph.D., who has headed the division on an interim basis since October of last year, in parallel with his responsibilities on ALTANA’s management board.

Boinowitz reportedly has many years of international management experience in specialty chemicals. He holds a doctorate in chemistry and has held various management positions at Evonik since 2008. He currently heads the Care Solutions business unit as senior vice president.

Boinowitz studied chemistry in Hamburg and received his doctorate from the University of Duisburg-Essen in 1995. At the same time, he studied economics at Open University of Hagen. He then joined the former Th. Goldschmidt AG company in Essen, which is now part of Evonik. After holding various positions in research and development and application technology, he served as global technical director of the current Comfort & Insulation business unit from 2003-2006. After managing strategic growth projects for the Consumer Specialties business unit and Corporate Development of Evonik Industries, he was appointed head of the Comfort & Insulation business unit in December 2011. From 2014-2018, he headed the Personal Care business unit.

“I am pleased that with Tammo Boinowitz we have been able to gain a real industry expert with outstanding technical and leadership skills for our largest division,” said Schlünken. “I am sure that he will continue BYK’s success story together with our employees.”
