Hundreds of coatings formulators and chemists are expected to attend Coatings Trends & Technologies (CTT), which will be held September 9-10 in the Chicago suburb of Lombard, Ill. The event will feature educational conference sessions in a two-track format, as well as tabletop exhibits and various opportunities to network with industry colleagues.
AkzoNobel’s Paint the Future initiative is focused on establishing an innovation ecosystem to help accelerate, test, launch, and scale ideas and solutions for the paints and coatings industry.

Five companies have embarked on an innovation journey with AkzoNobel after their ideas were selected as part of the company’s Paint the Future supplier collaboration program.
This year’s finalists, four girls and six boys ranging in age from 12-14, identified an everyday problem they’re passionate about and submitted a one- to two-minute video communicating the science behind their solution to solve the problem.

3M and Discovery Education recently announced the top 10 finalists and 27 State Merit Winners in the 2020 3M Young Scientist Challenge.
The update includes more than 14,000 human and plant metabolites, as well as pesticides and environmental contaminants, chemicals used in manufacturing such as lubricants and surfactants, pharmaceutical drugs, and illicit drugs.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has updated its database of chemical fingerprints, called mass spectra, that are used to identify unknown chemical compounds.
At the beginning of the year, and even as recently as March, the extent of our shared health crisis could not have possibly been imagined. Very quickly, however, following updates from national and international health organizations and the federal government, everyone, including all of us at the Pressure Sensitive Tape Council (PSTC), began to make strategic decisions regarding how to not only navigate the perilous situation, but how to move forward.
For the 2020 edition of the biannual award, 10 candidates submitted papers in innovative adhesion science, and the EURADH jury examined each one for everything from scientific impact to practical application.

The winner of the second FEICA/EURADH Adhesion Innovation Award is Elisa Arikan for her paper on “Structural Adhesive Bonding of Polymers-Surface Characteristics and Adhesion Mechanism.”
Working cooperatively with Origin, Henkel supplied knowledge and technology to help design a nasopharyngeal swab that could be 3D printed at scale.

In collaboration with Origin, Henkel recently announced that it has leveraged its ability to carry out biocompatibility and mechanical testing at its facility in Concord, Calif., and provided a range of 3D-printable medical photopolymers designed for use on Origin’s material development systems.
Digital technologies like sensors, computer vision, analytics, and robotics will be key enablers of the chemicals market’s transition to outcome-based business models over the next 20 years.
