These ultraviolet-transmissible materials (UVT), which are marketed under the names UVT SUNSPHERES and UVT SUNSPACERS, allow ultraviolet light to "penetrate" through pigmented formulations and thereby effect through-cure even when coatings are greater than 10 mils (0.010 inches or 254 microns) in thickness. This can be accomplished with photoinitiator concentrations of less than 1% and line speeds greater than 25 fpm. These special-glass, solid spheres are available in various sizes that range from 0.3 to 120 microns in diameter, and are typically used at concentrations of about 20% to 35% by weight.
